Albany, NY (WIBX)- The State Public Service Commission is ordering National Grid to better control and manage service costs following the release of an independent audit.

The audit shows National Grid overcharged customers $44 million in 2009.

The PSC says the audit also found an additional $11.2 million in non-recurring charges should have been excluded from the power company's most recent electric rates.

National Grid has 45 days to file a plan to implement recommendations in the audit.

National Grid says the audit is flawed.

Officials say no money will be returned until a more thorough examination of accounts is completed.
