A new executive director of the NBA Players Association has been hired.

With her hiring, Washington, DC attorney Michele Roberts will become the first female head of a major sports union.

During a meeting of the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) executive committee Roberts secured thirty-votes for the position, that is six more than what was needed.

Roberts replaces Billy Hunter, who was fired in February of 2013 after heading the group for 17 years.  At the time Hunter was making $3 million a year.  There is no official word yet on the details of Roberts' contract.
