Not all of the states are united in President Barack Obama's effort to lift bans on economic dealings with Iran.

On Tuesday Governor Pat McCrory of North Carolina rejected the President's request to reverse a ban on investments in Iran, saying that he wants Washington, D.C. to think of North Carolina and Americans first.

The Iran Divestment Act of 2015 makes it illegal for governments and American citizens to invest in Iran.  President Obama recently announced his intentions to open Iran to American investments in order to ease relations with that country.

Gov. McCrory released a statement saying, "So long as I am governor, North Carolina will not subsidize a regime which remains the world’s lead sponsor of terrorism. It’s time for Washington, D.C. to put the safety, security and best interests of North Carolinians and Americans first.”
