The newest student housing complex is in a century-old twelve-story structure which for decades was known as The Press Building.

The Chenango Street building is expected to be home to up to 271 students in the months ahead.

The building sustained extensive smoke and water damage when a fire tore through the neighboring Midtown Mall complex in December 2010.

At the time of the fire, the building housed a large law firm and several other businesses. It remained empty for an extended period but a new owner acquired the property to convert it into student housing.

Students moving into the newly-renovated building on Monday said they were excited to be able to live in the downtown tower.

Complex general manager Jeff Horowitz recently said he expected the building would be fully occupied for the fall semester.

Binghamton University fall semester classes will start August 25. Move-in day for freshman at the Vestal campus will be August 21.
