New Broome County DA Cornwell Selects Korchak as Chief Assistant

Stephen Cornwell has announced his choice for Broome County chief assistant district attorney.

Bob Joseph/WNBF News [file][/caption]Cornwell, who defeated incumbent district attorney Gerald Mollen in the November 3 election, said he has selected attorney Michael Korchak for the post.

Korkchak runs a private law practice and also serves as a Union town justice. He worked in the Bronx County district attorney's office between 1989 and 1995. He was a Broome County senior assistant district attorney between 1996 and 2007.

In announcing his choice of Korchak as his chief assistant, Cornwell said he is "one of the best prosecutors Broome County has ever seen."

The chief assistant district attorney will assist Cornwell in overseeing the office and in prosecuting high-level crimes.

Cornwell is to become district attorney in January.
