A New Hartford man has been sentenced to 160 months in prison on child pornography charges.

66-year old William McCoy was sentenced Monday in federal court in Syracuse.

The U.S. Attorney's Office says McCoy sentencing followed an earlier guilty plea to a four count indictment charging him with receipt and possession of child porn.

McCoy's arrest came as the result of an investigation by U.S. Department Homeland Security, with assistance from New York State Police and the United States Postal Inspection Service.

Authorities say McCoy has been using the internet to obtain and share child pornography.

Agents recovered nearly 1,200 images and four video files depicting the abuse of children from McCoy's computers and other electronic devices.

Following his prison term, McCoy will be placed on supervised release for 20 years and will be required to register as a sex offender.
