A new mobile phone personal security app is available through the Oneida County Sheriff's Law Enforcement  Foundation.

"Mobile Shield" is designed to be used in situations where people are in need of assistance.

When activated, "Mobile Shield" contacts the subscriber's selected contact person via text, e-mail or automated phone call.

Officials says "Mobile Shield" is not a replacement for calling 9-1-1.

The app is available at the foundation's website for 30-dollars a year.
