There will soon be a new way for the public to track registered sex offenders in Oneida County.

The County Sheriff's Office is joining over 1,500 law enforcement agencies nationwide in using the Offender Watch Program.

County Sheriff Rob Maciol says Offender Watch is a web-based program that will allow residents to search for the presence of sex offenders living in their neighborhood.

Residents can also sign up for electronic notification and will be sent a postcard anytime an offender changes their address.

Maciol says law enforcement agencies will also be able to use the site to share information regarding a particular offender.

The program is expected to be up in running in 30 to 60 days.
