Albany, NY (WIBX) - New York is the first, but the American Cancer Society hopes it won't be the last, state to make visits to tanning salons illegal for those under 18.

Reaction is mixed to the news. Many teens say they think that the dangers are exaggerated, or are only for those who abuse tanning. Others say teens do not properly acknowledge the dangers and that is precisely the point of the ban.

The World Health Organization says that the UV rays in tanning booths are five times stronger than sunshine and the American Cancer Society points out the alarming rise in melanoma cases in New York during the last ten years.
