ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) — Friday is "Black Lives Matter at School" day for one upstate New York public school district.

The Rochester City Schools have subtitled the event "a day of understanding and affirmation."

Officials say it's not an official part of the Black Lives Matter movement. Organized by a group of educators and parents, it's envisioned as a day of education, dialogue and action that will engage people in understanding and affirming that black lives matter.

About 57 percent of students in the urban district are black.
