New York state will receive an additional $33 million in heating assistance funds.

The funds were allocated through the Department of Health and Human Services Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP).

Senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand say the additional funds will help seniors and low income families offset the cost of heating their homes.

Schumer and Gillibrand both called on HHS to release the funding to New York state last October.

New York will receive a total of over $377-million dollars in federal assistance, the most in the country.
