New York Good Government Groups Call For Business Subsidy Database

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — Good government groups in New York are calling on state leaders to create a so-called "database of deals" that would show which companies are receiving state economic development subsidies.

The Citizens Budget Commission, the Fiscal Policy Institute and the group Reinvent Albany announced the proposal Wednesday at the state Capitol in Albany.

Reinvent Albany's Liz Marcello says the database would give New Yorkers a "clear, complete" picture of how the state is awarding public dollars.

Supporters say that too often the public doesn't know how the state is spending more than $4 billion in economic development money.
