New York Hunter Critical After Accidentally Shooting Himself
BELLMONT, N.Y. (AP) — A 56-year-old northern New York man remains in critical condition after authorities say he accidentally shot himself while setting out for a day of hunting.
New York State Police tell the Press-Republican of Plattsburgh (http://bit.ly/1OdlEcq ) that Daniel Haskell planned to go hunting last Thursday morning in the Franklin County town of Bellmont, near his home in the hamlet of Owls Head.
Troopers say Haskell got out of his truck and reached back inside to get his 20-gauge shotgun. Police say the weapon discharged, hitting him in the abdomen.
A neighbor discovered the injured man and called police.
Haskell is listed in critical condition at the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington.
