A New York judge is dealing a legal blow to the daily fantasy sports companies FanDuel and DraftKings.

The judge is granting an injunction by the state attorney general that calls for the companies to stop operating in New York.

A lawyer for DraftKings says he'll seek a stay of the decision and an appeal.

Attorney General Eric Schneiderman has been pushing for the two companies to be prevented from operating in the state under an anti-gambling measure.  The two companies claim their services aren't gambling and are games of skill instead.

Schneidrman issued the following statement following the ruling by New York Supreme Court Justice Manuel Mendez:

"We are pleased with the decision, consistent with our view that DraftKings and FanDuel are operating illegal gambling operations in clear violation of New York law.  I have said from the beginning that my job is to enforce the law, and that is what happened today."
