ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — Telemarketers have to use accurate caller ID information under a bill signed into law by Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

An initiative announced by the Democratic governor on Thursday also includes deploying state consumer protection staff to warn consumers about telemarketing scams and facilitate filing of consumer complaints.

Consumers have complained that caller ID systems don't always display correct information when telemarketers call. That makes it difficult to report violations of the Do Not Call registry law.

The state consumer protection division says consumers can register for the Do Not Call list online at www.donotcall.gov .
