BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — A New York man who strangled his girlfriend and set her body on fire is facing 25 years in prison.

Thomas Murphy of suburban Buffalo pleaded guilty to manslaughter and arson Monday in Erie County Court.

Prosecutors say the 59-year-old strangled 64-year-old Jean Hartwig inside their Cheektowaga (cheek-tuh-WAH'-guh) apartment last year and set her body on fire inside a bedroom.

Murphy's being held without bail pending his sentencing in December.
