CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. (AP) — Authorities say a suburban Buffalo man posing as a police officer had a stockpile of law enforcement equipment that included fake badges and various uniforms.

Police in the town of Cheektowaga say an officer responding to a report of a reckless driver encountered 26-year-old Corey Shepard at the scene Monday. Officials say Shepard was wearing a police uniform and bullet-proof vest, was armed with a handgun and claimed to be an off-duty Buffalo cop.

Afterward police became suspicious and eventually learned Shepard was an employee of a local security systems company.

He was arrested at his Cheektowaga home, where police say they found a stockpile of police-related equipment, bogus badges and other items.

The charges against Shepard include criminal impersonation.

It couldn't be determined if he has a lawyer.
