New York Mills, NY (WIBX) - A New York Mills man was taken into custody tonight by members of the New York State Police following a 5-hour standoff at the Carolyn Courts apartment complex.

According to authorities, 54-year old James Mogle barricaded himself inside his apartment after becoming distraught over a personal relationship. According to Captain Francis Coots of the New York State Police, the man gave himself up peacefully. "It's a lengthy process, we know time is on our side and I think he finally realized it was time to give up and get the help he needs" said Coots.

Mogle was taken into custody under the Mental Hygiene law, he was transferred to a local hospital for evaluation. Police say alcohol was involved, they also removed a handgun and a rifle from the residence.
