New York Names ‘Working Dog’ the Official Dog

The "Working Dog" is now New York's official state dog.  Governor Andrew Cuomo signed a measure into law last week that added trained working dogs to the list of creatures that represent the state.

Under the new law there is no specific breed determined.  The Governor said the new law honors any dog trained for service including drug-sniffing dogs, Police K-9's, search dogs and those that assist the disabled.

New York becomes the twelfth state to designate an official state dog.  Some of the others include the Great Dane in Pennsylvania, the Chesapeake Bay Retriever in Maryland and the American Foxhound in Virginia.
