BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — Gov. Andrew Cuomo has pledged $1.2 million in state funding toward a new attraction for Buffalo's waterfront.

In Buffalo Wednesday, Cuomo said the money will go toward construction of a new carousel house for a vintage carousel that will be restored and installed in the city's Canalside district.

The 1924 carousel, which will run on solar power, was manufactured in nearby North Tonawanda (tahn-uh-WAHN'-duh) but has been in storage since the 1950s. A not-for-profit group, Buffalo Heritage Carousel, has been raising money to make it part of the redevelopment of the city's waterfront.

The new building will allow for year-round access to the amusement ride and have space for events.
