The new recruitment effort was announced by State Police Superintendent George Beach as the agency celebrates a century of service to New York residents.

Beach said the agency is built on the "diversity of the men and women who have dedicated their lives to serving their communities and the state."

The superintendent said the state police will be seeking qualified, committed and motivated candidates to take the trooper entrance examination in the fall.

The exams are scheduled for each Saturday in October. They will be offered at several locations around the state.

Online applications may be submitted via the nytrooper.com website. The application deadline is September 1.

Applicants must be United States citizens and at least 20 years old by the deadline. People older than 30 at the deadline date are ineligible. The maximum age may be extended for those who have actively served in the military.

People with a felony conviction are automatically disqualified.
