New York state will be cracking down on underage drinking.

Governor Andrew Cuomo says over the next two months, State Liquor Authority investigators, working with underage decoys, will conduct statewide sweeps at more than 500 locations holding liquor licenses.  That includes bars, restaurants, liquor stores and grocery stores.

Investigators from the Department of Motor Vehicles will join the SLA during some of the enforcement operations.

They'll also be conducting their own fake ID enforcement sweeps at locations holding liquor licenses across New York.

“Underage drinking and fake IDs are not only illegal, but can lead to reckless decisions that can have life-altering consequences,” Governor Cuomo said. “These operations will build on our successful efforts to protect our state’s youth, safeguard our roadways from impaired drivers, and hold accountable those who seek to enable this dangerous behavior."

The combined enforcement effort begins today and will run through April.
