New York State Troopers Recognize Local Lawman

Albany, NY (WIBX) - The New York State Police handed out their annual awards to the members of Troop "D" and this year a local Trooper has received the "Outstanding Trooper Award for Zone 1".

During the last year, Trooper Jason Nellis of the Herkimer barracks made 11 felony arrests, 47 Misdemeanor arrests and handed out more than 300 traffic tickets. He also arrested 7 people for Driving While Intoxicated.

Trooper Nellis has also been recognized for his hard work by the Herkimer County Stop DWI Program, who named him the "2012 Stop DWI Trooper of the Year".

Trooper Nellis has been with the State Police for nearly 8 years and has also served his country, as a United States Marine serving in the Middle East. Troop "D" Commander Major Rodney Campbell calls Trooper Nellis a well-rounded individual who brings respect and dignity to the uniform.
