ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — New York state will invest $74.6 million in community efforts to improve senior nutrition.

The administration of Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo says the funding will be divided up among 59 local agencies on aging. It will support programs to prevent and reduce chronic diet-related diseases such as diabetes and obesity, as well as efforts to boost senior nutrition through access to healthy foods.

In some cases the money will pay for healthy options at community meal sites and home-delivered meals. It will also pay for nutrition counseling and help with applications for federal benefits including the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.
