New York Vocational Counselor Admits Role In $2.3 Million Theft

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — New York authorities say a state vocational counselor in the Bronx has pleaded guilty to grand larceny, admitting participating in a scheme to steal more than $2.3 million from the state.

According to the attorney general's office, Keisha Relf Davis' guilty plea follows similar previous admissions by Juan Cabrera and Juani Ortiz.

A third defendant, Steven Washington, awaits trial. All were indicted in the Bronx in 2014.

Prosecutors say that in exchange for cash bribes, Relf Davis approved students for a state vocational rehabilitation program although they never applied and weren't qualified.

They filed false documents prompting the state to pay for training at commercial driving schools for training the students didn't get.
