ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — New York state is looking to put locally grown foods on the menu in school cafeterias.

Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo's administration announced Thursday that the state plans to award $500,000 in grants to help schools increase the amount and variety of locally grown fruits, vegetables and other items served to students.

Cuomo calls the idea a "win-win" that provides healthy meals to students while helping the state's agricultural industry.

A similar round of grants last year helped 45 districts throughout the state increase their use of local products.
