(WIBX) - New Yorkers pay 53-percent more for auto insurance than the average American. That's according to the group "New Yorkers Stand against Auto Insurance Fraud."

The group, along with their mock mascot "Frankie the Fraudster," is lobbying the legislature today for reforms designed to put a halt to profits derived from the proliferation of fraudulent auto insurance cases.

The group estimates that insurance fraud has cost New York drivers an estimated 1-billion dollars in higher insurance premiums over the last 5-years alone.
