The NFL is suspending it's long enforced TV blackout rule which has prevented local Buffalo Bills fans from occasionally catching their team on football-Sundays.

The rule, in place since the 1970s, states that if game is not sold out within 72 hours of kickoff it is blacked out in 'local' TV markets, NFL.com reports.

In parts of central New York, specifically cable subscribers in Oneida and Herkimer Counties, the CBS affiliate is based in Syracuse - a market that is covered by the blackout when Bills games don't sellout. Meaning the only way to watch the game is through the NFL Sunday Ticket.

According to the NFL's Greg Aiello, no games were subject to blackout restrictions in 2014.

The league plans to re-evaluate its decision after 2015.
