New Hartford, NY (WIBX) - A recent string of overnight thefts from vehicles parked in driveways is under investigation by the New Hartford Police Department. Officials say, over the last five nights, those responsible, targeted cars and trucks in Chadwicks, Washington Mills, and on Oxford and Paris Road, between the hours of midnight and dawn.

Police say the thieves, who they suspect are working in a team of two or three people, walk from driveway to driveway, checking for unlocked car doors. Unlocked vehicles are then ransacked, and so far, only one locked car has been broken into. The suspects have made off with GPS units, loose change, brief cases, gym bags, purses and jewelry. Police are asking anyone with information about the crimes to come forward by calling, (315) 733-6666. They say all calls will remain confidential.

Also, they're reminding residents to keep their vehicle doors locked, and not leave valuables in plain sight.
