NHPD: Rome Man Assaults, Steals Woman’s Cell Phone

New Hartford, NY (WIBX) - A Rome man is facing multiple charges for allegedly assaulting a woman during an argument. New Hartford police say 22-year-old Chad W. Underwood of Cherry Street, also stole the victim's cell phone during their 4th of July dispute at the Hillside Garden Apartments on Oxford Road in New Hartford.

They say the woman sustained numerous non-life threatening injuries and was treated at St. Luke's Hospital in Utica. Today, following an investigation, police arrested Underwood at his residence, charging him with:

• Robbery in the second degree, a felony
• Assault in the second degree, a felonies
• Criminal Obstruction of Breathing or Blood Circulation, a misdemeanor

Underwood was arraigned in the Town of New Hartford Court and remanded to the Oneida County Correctional Facility in lieu of bail. He's due back in court at a later date.
