Police and fire investigators are continuing their efforts to find those responsible for an arson blaze in Endicott.

The fire erupted early Friday in a former synagogue at 117 Jefferson Avenue. The building more recently had been used for video production.

Authorities say the place had been booby-trapped with trip wires, gasoline, propane and butane.

Investigators say the elaborate setup may have been part of an effort to injure or kill firefighters.

The blaze was confined to a stairwell and no one was hurt.

Officials say the intricate arson scheme had the potential to cause extensive damage to the residential neighborhood just one block north of the village police and fire stations.

Police have not indicated whether they have any suspects in connection with the apparent effort to target emergency workers.
