PERU, N.Y. (AP) — An 81-year-old northern New York woman remains hospitalized after she was attacked on her property by a neighbor's three dogs.

State police say the attack occurred last Friday afternoon as Loretta Timmons was at the end of her driveway in the Clinton County town of Peru, 135 miles (217 kilometers) north of Albany.

Troopers say Timmons was attacked by her neighbor's 5-year-old American bulldog and two boxers.

A woman driving by saw the attack and managed to get the dogs away from Timmons. She was treated at a local hospital, then was transported UVM Medical Center in Burlington, Vermont, where she underwent surgery.

The victim's family tells the Press-Republican of Plattsburgh that her condition is improving.

The bulldog was euthanized. The other two dogs were quarantined.
