BOSTON (AP) — Tom Magliozzi, one half of the brother duo that hosted National Public Radio's popular "Car Talk," has died of complications from Alzheimer's disease. He was 77 years old.

Magliozzi and his brother, Ray, were unlikely radio stars. Their witty banter and trustworthy car repair advice endeared them to audiences, making "Car Talk" NPR's most popular entertainment program for years.

The show, which began in 1977 on Boston's local NPR station, continued to be a top-rated show even after the brothers stopped taping live shows in 2012 and the network began airing reruns.

The Cambridge, Mass., brothers were car mechanics and MIT graduates. They ended their shows with the catchphrase "Don't drive like my brother," delivered in thick Boston accents.

Magliozzi died Monday. Details about funeral arrangements were not immediately available.
