A bill to streamline procedures for Nurse Practitioners in New York State is included in the new state budget.

Assemblyman Anthony Brindisi sponsored the legislation.

Brindisi says the Nurse Practitioners Modernization Act will signfiicantly improve healthcare for New Yorkers and enhance the nursing profession across the state.

It's designed to eliminate the requirement that experienced Nurse Practitioners must have a Written Practice Agreement in place signed by a physician.

Nurse Practitioners with less than 3,600 hours of practice  will still need to maintain this agreement.

The new law takes effect next January.
