ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — New York is deploying five new patrol boats to law enforcement agencies around the state.

The vessels are designed to operate on rivers, lakes and coastal areas and cost about $150,000.

Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo's administration announced Friday that the boats will be assigned to the state's environmental police, the state park police, and to police departments in Glen Cove and Suffolk County on Long Island and Yates County.

The craft are intended to serve a variety of missions, from search-and-rescue to assisting recreational boaters.

The money for the boats came from a federal recreational boating safety program administered by the U.S. Coast Guard.
