ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — An upstate New York doctor and his wife have agreed to pay $500,000 for submitting false claims to Medicare for unapproved chemotherapy drugs.

Dr. Vincent Koh and wife Milly, who works as office manager, pleaded guilty in November to violations of the False Claims Act.

Federal officials say that from mid-2010 to early 2012 the couple's medical practice purchased various drugs from a Canadian distributor at much lower prices than those charged by U.S. manufacturers and distributors. The drugs, obtained from foreign sources, were not approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration as required for them to be distributed in the U.S. and were not reimbursable by Medicare.

The Kohs, whose practice has offices in Poughkeepsie and Glens Falls, are scheduled to be sentenced in March.
