New York is Music, a coalition of more than 200 music-related organizations, is calling on the state legislature to pass the Empire State Music Production Tax Credit.

Local music business members gathered at Big Blue North Recording Studio in Utica on Thursday to show their support for the legislation.

Upstate Field Director Justin Cohen-Mayo says the bill is similar to New York's film tax credit and would provide a 35 percent tax credit for production related costs for Upstate music businesses.

He says the tax credit would support the creation of good jobs in the music production and recording industry in New York State.

Cohen-Mayo says the tax credit will help level the playing field with other states that already have it, like California, Tennessee and Louisiana.
