GASPORT, N.Y. (AP) — Authorities have charged a western New York man with killing his 6-month-old son earlier this year.

The Niagara County Sheriff's Office says Dillon Hossbach of Gasport called 911 in February from his residence to report that his son was ill and not breathing. Before he died, firefighters tried to perform CPR on the baby without success.

Officials say an investigation revealed that the infant died from trauma.

Hossbach turned himself in on Monday after being indicted on manslaughter and second-degree murder charges on Dec. 7, a day before his 25th birthday.

He pleaded not guilty and was released from jail after posting $40,000 bail.
