NY Man Convicted Of Killing Roommate, Burning Her Body
GENESEO, N.Y. (AP) — A 36-year-old man has been found guilty of killing his roommate last year and dumping her burned body along a rural western New York road.
A Livingston County jury deliberated for just 40 minutes earlier this week before convicting Aykut Ozkaynak of second-degree murder and tampering with physical evidence in the killing of 64-year-old Patrice Miller.
His girlfriend, 44-year-old Mary Neverett, pleaded guilty last month to a manslaughter charge.
The couple lived with Miller in the town of Gates, a Rochester suburb. Prosecutors say the pair smothered Miller to death in early July, then burned her body before dumping it on a road in Livingston County.
Neverett will be sentenced Nov. 30 to 20 years in prison. Ozkaynak faces up to 25 years to life when he's sentenced in January.
