NY Man Faces Prison For Attack On Rochester Cab Driver

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) — A New York prosecutor says a parolee who viciously stabbed a Rochester cab driver with a butcher knife last July is facing 25 years in prison.

The Democrat & Chronicle reports that Eugene Hutchings, who pleaded guilty Wednesday to attempted murder and other charges, will be sentenced Feb. 15.

The driver sensed that he was about to be robbed. Before he could hand over the money he had — $35 — Hutchings stabbed him five or six times in the head and neck.

Monroe County Assistant District Attorney Monica O'Brien says the victim's wounds were severe and he lost a lot of blood, but he's recovering.

Hutchings was on parole for robbery. Records show he also has a previous assault conviction.
