CALEDONIA, N.Y. (AP) — A 50-year-old upstate New York man accused of shooting his sister-in-law accidentally while hunting has pleaded guilty to criminally negligent homicide.

The Livingston County District Attorney's Office says John Lander of Rochester agreed to a plea Tuesday that will sentence him to four months of weekends in the county jail with eligibility for work release.

Lander was charged with the death of 45-year-old Sharon Lander, also of Rochester.

The shooting occurred Nov. 27 in woods near the Genesee River in Livingston County, south of Rochester. Sharon Lander was in a hunting party with four others when she was shot in the abdomen.

Lander told investigators his shotgun went off when he dropped it as he was taking it off his shoulder.
