Albany, NY (WIBX) - New York is, once again, trying to bring Mixed Martial Arts to the Empire State.

The most recent MMA bill, sponsored by Senator Joe Griffo, passed the Senate by a 43-14 vote. Last year, a similar vote was taken, but was shot down in the Assembly.

According to Griffo, most states currently allow regulated MMA events in their states, including Pennsylvania, Florida and New Jersey. He says, quote, "The longer we wait, the more revenue we lose out on."

According to a 2008 study, approximately $11.5 million could be generated from one UFC event held in New York City.

The State Assembly will now have their opportunity to consider the bill.
