With summer coming to an end, attendance at New York State Park campgrounds is on pace for another record-setting year.

Through August 17th, visitors have reserved more than 562,000 overnight stays at State Park campgrounds, a five-percent increase over last year.  The record set last year was  594,441 overnight stays.

State Parks officials are reminding New Yorkers that many of the state's camping facilities are open for fall camping well into the autumn months.

“While summer may be flying by, there are still plenty of opportunities to camp at a state park, with close-by and affordable options for all families,” said State Parks Commissioner Rose Harvey. “With stunning fall foliage, crisp fall air and warm campfires to enjoy, fall camping is a wonderful way to extend your time in the outdoors before winter sets in.”
