NY State Trooper Avoids Head On Collision; Other Driver Arrested
Lakeport, NY (WIBX) - A New York State Trooper was nearly hit head-on, while on patrol.
According to authorities, Sergeant Matthew Navin was patrolling Route 31 Saturday afternoon, January 21, 2012 when a 2002 Pontiac Sunfire crossed the double yellow line, forcing Trooper Navin to swerve onto the shoulder, avoiding a head-on collision.
According to Authorities, the Pontiac was stopped and the driver, 30-year old Jonathan Lessels of Vernon was found with a large quantity of prescription medications and about half an ounce of marijuana.
Lessels failed a sobriety tests and was charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle While Impaired by Drugs, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th Degree, Unlawful Possession of Marijuana and Possession of a Controlled Substance Outside It's Original Container.
