BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — Police in Buffalo say they've made an arrest in the fatal shooting of a mother of three who was among three people slain in the city on New Year's Day.

Authorities said Monday that 31-year-old Nadiyah Whitaker of suburban Cheektowaga was charged with second-degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon in the killing of 30-year-old Shanna Mason.

Police say Mason was shot and killed outside a home on Gold Street on the morning of Jan. 1. She left behind three children.

It couldn't immediately be determined if Whitaker has an attorney who could comment on the charges.

Two men ages 22 and 25 were also shot and killed in Buffalo in separate shootings on New Year's Day. Those cases remain under investigation.
