ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) — A western New York woman whose 2001 conviction for killing a toddler was overturned has pleaded guilty to assaulting the child.

The Monroe County District Attorney's Office says 57-year-old Rene Bailey, of the town of Greece, pleaded guilty Monday in a Rochester court to assaulting 2-year-old Brittney Sheets. Bailey had previously maintained that she had nothing to do with the child's death ever since she was originally convicted in 2001.

The conviction was overturned in 2014.

As part of the guilty plea, Bailey didn't say what exactly happened the day Brittney died from the injuries caused by Bailey while she was caring for the girl.

The plea will also not result in additional time incarcerated, as Bailey has already served 13 years in prison.

Prosecutors say the plea shows the toddler died because of Bailey's actions.
