Authorities say Monday morning's explosion on the New York City subway system was an attempted terror attack with a pipe bomb.

Just a handful of injuries have been reported, and it appears the alleged bomber, Akayed Ullah - a 27-year-old Bangledshi man who was living in Brooklyn, suffered the most serious injuries, according to Fox News:

Akayed Ullah, 27, set off the "effectively low-tech device" in a subway passageway just before 7:30 a.m., New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo said in a news conference. Ullah, who lived in Brooklyn, suffered burns and wounds to his abdomen and hands and appeared to be the only person seriously injured in the pipe bomb explosion, authorities said.

Meanwhile, the New York Post reports Ullah strapped a 'low tech' pipe bomb to himself but the device somehow detonated earlier than the suspect had intended. They also report Ullah worked for an electrical company and authorities believe that is where he may have constructed it.

New York City councilman Joe Borelli twitter this photo of the alleged attacker:

The explosion occurred not far the Port Authority terminal, which sees nearly 250,000 subway riders each day, according to reports.

The New York City subways, including the affected areas, are up and running again, according to the Fox News report.
