The American Legion Baseball Championships begin tomorrow, and before the games begin New York State Legion Commander John Sampson brought a group of players to Sitrin's Rehab Center to meet with a group of Veterans.

Sampson says the kids were thrilled to meet the Vets and learn from them, and that he says is what American Legion baseball is all about.

"It's not just what the boys learn from sports, the competition, that kind of stuff," Sampson said. "It's also a mindset of community spirit, the Legion doesn't just do baseball."

Sampson is a 40 year member of the Hughes-Skiba Legion Post 535 and will throw out the first pitch in Tuesday's game at Murnane Field.
