New York State's Department of Motor Vehicles website is second-best in the country according to rankings by DMV.com.

The ranking comes after an overhaul of the site in 2014 that now gives users the ability to order replacement ID's, renew registrations, make appointments at the DMV and complete more than 30 other transactions online or on your mobile device.

“When we launched our customer service initiative a couple of years ago, we wanted to make the DMV’s entire operation fast, easy and convenient and improving our website was a top priority,” said J. David Sampson, Executive Deputy Commissioner of the DMV. “Our website uses some of the best practices in online customer service and the results have been encouraging. We continue to see increased online use annually, allowing customers to conduct transactions when it is convenient for them. We are continuing to make improvements to the website to meet the increasing demand for more online DMV services.”

One of the newest features of the website that helped earn the number two ranking is the MyDMV option to create a personal account where you can sign up for mobile alerts to be reminded when your registration and inspection are up, check for driving restrictions or points on your license and see steps you can take to clear them.

In 2014 the top online transaction was registration renewals with more than 1.9 million completed.

Washington State's DMV website took the top spot, narrowly beating out New York's.
