NYS Police Charge Utica Man With Aggravated DWI After Crash

Utica, NY (WIBX) - A Utica man is facing multiple charges following an accident on Route 365 in the Town of Verona. State police say 33-year-old Luis D. Lopez of Dudley Avenue crashed his car near the intersection of Blackmans Corners Road. Officials say he was driving while intoxicated.

According to the report, Lopez drove into the center median of the four lane divided highway and became airborne after striking a sign post. The vehicle came to a rest at the bottom of the embankment after taking out a group of small trees. Police say Lopez had a blood alcohol level of .19 percent. He was issued multiple traffic tickets for Aggravated DWI and is also facing several traffic violations.

State police say Lopez and his 24-year-old male passenger refused treatment from emergency first responders. The incident occurred around 8:05 p.m. on Wednesday, April 20th. Lopez was processed at the State Police Oneida Barracks. The suspect is scheduled to answer the charges at a later date in the Town of Verona Court.
